Manchester City travel to the North East on Saturday, looking to keep the pressure on league leaders Arsenal.
Pep Guardiola’s side arrive in excellent form. In fact, they have won four straight games in all competitions. Most notably, they thrashed Liverpool 3-0 in their last outing before the international break. City boast a phenomenal scoring record against Newcastle.
Remarkably, they have scored in each of their last 33 Premier League games against the Magpies. Erling Haaland will be the man to watch. The Norwegian striker has 14 league goals this season. Crucially, he needs just one more to reach his 100th Premier League goal in record time.
Manchester City team news
Pep Guardiola has confirmed a clean bill of health for his returning international players. Fortunately, he reported no fresh injury concerns following the break.
However, Manchester City will remain without key midfielders Rodri and Mateo Kovačić for the upcoming fixture. Guardiola revealed that Rodri is “making good steps” in his recovery. Nevertheless, the Spaniard is still working his way back from a setback suffered three weeks ago. Therefore, the club will give him the necessary time to recover fully to ensure his consistency for the rest of the season.
Aside from the midfield duo, Guardiola has a fully fit squad to choose from. The manager was particularly effusive about Erling Haaland. The striker continued his sensational form during the break. Impressively, he scored four goals for Norway to secure their qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
