Manchester United’s run in this season’s Champions League came to an abrupt end tonight, as Jose Mourinho’s lacklustre side slipped to a shocking 2-1 defeat to an very average Sevilla at Old Trafford. In all honesty United got exactly what they deserved after putting in a lethargic performance lacking in any intensity or desire. Let’s see how Mourinho’s men rated …
de Gea 5
Made a couple of decent stops, but should have done better with Ben Yedder’s second.
A Valencia 4
Given a torrid time over both legs by the dangerous Correa.
Bailly 4
Sloppy in possession and lost all tactical discipline in the second period.
Smalling 4
Missed a massive chance at 2-0, and was his usual clumsy self in possession all night.
Young 5
Defended well at times, but did little going forward, although to be fair he may well have been under orders not to cross the half way line.
Fellaini 4
Not his fault he lacks mobility and the team resort to long ball tactics when he’s in the team, but looked rusty on his first start in four months.
Matic 5
Couldn’t get to grips with Sevilla’s movement in midfield, and seemed to lose his head late in the game just when his team needed him.
Rashford 5
Completely ineffective playing from the right, again not his fault his manager choose to change him from the left were he was so impressive last weekend against Liverpool.
Lingard 5
Started centrally behind Lukaku, but had little or no effect on the game.
Sánchez 3
Shocking. Continues to give away possession and an alarming rate, and is nothing more than a passenger at the moment.
Lukaku 6
Showed some decent flashes of strength and hold up play at times. Ok finish for his sides consolation goal.
Substitutes
Pogba 3
Abysmal after his introduction on the hour mark. Looks completely devoid of confidence, whenever he did actually attempt a forward pass, it ended up nowhere near a team-mate.
Mata 5
A couple of decent touches, although it was all a little too late.
Martial 4
Barely looked interested after his introduction.
