Manchester City have entered the race to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga after withdrawing the club’s interest in Declan Rice.
City have decided against submitting a second offer for West Ham captain Rice, after Arsenal increased their proposal for the England international to a club-record £105m including add-ons.
Pep Guardiola remains keen to add to his midfield options however, and Fabrizio Romano is reporting that City have joined Chelsea and Liverpool in expressing an interest in Celta Vigo’s Veiga.
The 21-year-old was one of the breakthrough stars of the La Liga campaign as the midfielder scored 11 goals in 36 appearances for the Spanish side.
His form helped Celta Vigo avoid relegation and earned the midfielder inclusion in the Spain u21 squad for this summer’s European Championship.
Veiga’s contract is understood to contain a release clause of €40m (£34m) and City have joined Chelsea and Liverpool in asking to be kept informed on his situation this summer.
City confirmed the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea this week, but are keen to add another option in midfield following Ilkay Gundogan’s exit to Barcelona.
