Lyon team news
Lyon come into this fixture depleted by injury and suspension, with several key players unavailable. Hans Hateboer remains suspended following his red card on debut after joining on an emergency loan from Stade Rennais. Defender Abner is also suspended and won’t be available for the game against PSG. Additionally, Lyon are without several injured players, including Mangala, Nuamah, and Fofana, who all remain sidelined ahead of the weekend clash.
On the positive side, Argentine left-back Nicolás Tagliafico has been in exceptional form this season, earning an international recall. His presence provides defensive stability for the home side. Ainsley Maitland-Niles is expected to feature on the right side of defence for Lyon.
PSG team news
PSG face a mounting injury crisis following their 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday. The Parisians suffered a triple injury blow, with three key players forced off during the match at Parc des Princes.
Right-back Achraf Hakimi was forced off in the seventh minute of first-half stoppage time after being caught by Luis Diaz, who was subsequently sent off. PSG revealed that Hakimi has severely sprained his left ankle and will miss several weeks, with initial reports suggesting it could be as many as six weeks. The injury has placed his participation at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations for Morocco in doubt, with the tournament beginning on 21 December.
Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé was also forced off in the 25th minute of the Bayern match, suffering a calf strain. The Frenchman is set to be sidelined for “the next few weeks” according to PSG, meaning he will miss France’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Left-back Nuno Mendes was able to finish the match against Bayern, but sprained his left knee and will also be missing for several weeks. Some reports have suggested that all three players are likely to be out for the remainder of 2025, with PSG providing further updates after the international break.
Midfielder Désiré Doué remains unavailable, continuing PSG’s injury struggles. Forward Bradley Barcola did not participate in team training on Thursday and there is uncertainty regarding his participation against Lyon.
Form
Lyon
Lyon has displayed inconsistent form throughout the 2025-26 campaign. After claiming victories over Strasbourg (2-1) and FC Basel (2-0) in recent weeks, the side drew 0-0 against Stade Brestois in their most recent outing.
The team also drew 3-3 against Paris FC earlier, highlighting their defensive inconsistencies. Lyon have just won one match in their last five league outings.
PSG
PSG are unbeaten in their last 6 league outings but they will be disappointed as they only won 2 out of the last 5 Ligue 2 matches and lost crucial points. They also lost to Bayern Munich in the midweek UCL encounter(1-2).
However, the defeat to Bayern Munich was concerning, with Luis Enrique criticizing his team’s defensive performance. The coach remarked that PSG “gave away big gifts” to the German champions and admitted they “could have even conceded additional goals”.
Despite acknowledging Bayern’s superiority in the first half, Enrique expressed a lack of explanation for why his side fell short, particularly when operating with 11 versus 11 players. He further acknowledged that managing the club’s injury situation requires improvement from his part as a coach, stating: “It’s something I should handle much better, considering all of my experience”.
Predicted lineups
Lyon: Greif; Maitland-Niles, Mata, Niakhate, Tagliafico; Tessmann, Morton; Sulc, Tolisso, Moreira; Satriano.
PSG: Chevalier; Zaire-Emery, Zabarnyi, Pacho, Hernandez; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Barcola, Ramos, Kvaratskhelia.
