Luis Enrique would be open to talks with Tottenham about becoming the club’s next manager.
Enrique is understood to be on a shortlist of contingency options at Spurs should Antonio Conte leave the club this summer, with the latter out of contract at the end of the season.
Spurs possess an option to extend Conte’s deal for a further campaign, but there is an expectation that the Italian will leave his post after a challenging season on and off the pitch.
According to the Times, Enrique is the favoured option of Spurs’ managing director, Fabio Paratici, and would be receptive to an approach from the north Londoners. The 52-year-old has been without a job since leaving the Spain national side following their last-16 exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Enrique’s previous club roles include spells at Roma and Barcelona. He won a Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey treble with the latter during the 2014/15 campaign and Spurs are hopeful that his proven pedigree can persuade Harry Kane to sign a new deal at the club.
Enrique’s record in promoting young talent at Spain is also admired at Spurs and he heads a shortlist of managerial candidates which is also said to include Oliver Glasner – who led Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League success last season – Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorin and Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti.
