Liverpool vs Burnley – Match Preview and Team News

Seeking to avoid an unprecedented stumbling block against newly-promoted opposition, Liverpool welcome struggling Burnley to Anfield this afternoon.

While the Reds are currently on an 11-match unbeaten run across all competitions, Arne Slot’s side are still hunting for their first Premier League victory of 2026 following three consecutive draws against Leeds, Fulham, and Arsenal.

A failure to secure three points today would see Liverpool fail to win against all three promoted teams at home in a single season for the first time in the Premier League era.

Conversely, Scott Parker’s Burnley arrive at Anfield in a desperate search for points; the 19th-placed Clarets have not tasted a top-flight win since October and currently sit eight points adrift of safety.

Team News

Liverpool

The Reds have been dealt a significant blow with Conor Bradley ruled out for the remainder of the season following knee surgery.

He joins long-term absentees Alexander Isak (broken fibula), Giovanni Leoni (ACL), and Wataru Endo (ankle) on the sidelines.

Mohamed Salah remains unavailable as he represents Egypt in the AFCON third-place playoff against Nigeria this weekend.

In more positive news, Hugo Ekitiké is in contention to lead the line after marking his return from injury with a goal and an assist against Barnsley in the FA Cup.

Burnley

Scott Parker’s injury crisis shows little sign of abating. Josh Cullen, Zeki Amdouni, Connor Roberts, and Jordan Beyer remain unavailable.

Furthermore, Hannibal Mejbri, Maxime Esteve, Joe Worrall, and Oliver Sonne are all reportedly sidelined with injuries or fitness concerns.

Zian Flemming has also been ruled out of the trip to Anfield, while late assessments will be required for Lyle Foster due to illness.

Armando Broja is expected to start up front following a rest during the FA Cup win over Millwall.

Form

Liverpool

Arne Slot’s side currently sits fourth in the Premier League, clinging to the final Champions League spot despite a run of three straight league draws.

The Reds found some rhythm in midweek with a 4-1 FA Cup victory over Barnsley, though Slot noted “concerning markers” in the performance.

Notably, Liverpool have already been held at home by promoted sides Sunderland (1-1) and Leeds (0-0) this term, making a victory today a “non-negotiable” for their European ambitions.

Burnley

Burnley arrive at Anfield winless in their last 12 Premier League matches, a drought stretching back to late October.

During this run, the Clarets have scored only 10 goals while conceding 24, leaving them cemented in 19th place.

Furthermore, their away record is particularly poor, having lost eight of their 10 matches on the road this campaign.

However, they may draw confidence from a recent 2-2 draw with Manchester United and a dominant 5-1 FA Cup win over Millwall.

Predicted Lineups

Liverpool Predicted XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Konaté, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Szoboszlai, Jones, Wirtz; Ekitiké

Burnley Predicted XI: Dúbravka; Laurent, Estève, Humphreys; Walker, Ugochukwu, Florentino, Pires; Bruun Larsen, Anthony; Broja
