Liverpool owner John W Henry has tipped the Merseyside club to enjoy a ‘special season,’ saying that Jurgen Klopp has ‘solved’ the clubs defensive problems.
Liverpool have already equalled their best start to a Premier League season, picking up 26 points out of a possible 30, and are level on points with reigning champions Man City.
Despite being one of the pre-season favourites to end their 28-year wait to win the title, the Reds’ League Cup win in 2012 remains the only trophy that has been won under the ownership of American group, FSG.
They came close to adding a sixth European crown to their expansive trophy cabinet earlier this year, but of course fell at the final hurdle with the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev.
However, the £75 million acquisition of Virgil van Dijk, as well as the £67m addition of goalkeeper Alisson to their ranks, has left John W Henry to say that he thinks that the 2018/19 campaign could be ‘special’ for Liverpool.
“Yeah, Kiev was painful,” Henry said after watching his baseball franchise, the Boston Red Sox, win the World Series in Los Angeles.
“But getting to the Champions League final, you could say we were a little ahead of schedule.
“I think that Jurgen [Klopp] has solved our defensive issues and we are really strong at the back and in midfield, and everyone knows how good we are upfront.”
“[Liverpool] as well is a very special team, and it could be a special season,” he added.
