Thiago Alcantara was a footballer’s footballer. The Spaniard boasted brilliant technique during a club career that took in spells at some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
After emerging through Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, Thiago took in stints with Bayern Munich and Liverpool, hoovering up major trophies in the process.
Though his time with the latter was disrupted by injury issues, Thiago did provide some real moments of magic in a Liverpool shirt.
None more so than a Champions League cracker against Porto, scored on this day in 2021. As a loose ball bobbled out towards the midfielder, he connected with the sweetest strike to send the ball past Diogo Costa and open the scoring.
A player whose aesthetic on the pitch was almost unmatched at his best, scoring a goal that is ludicrously easy on the eye.
