Liverpool boss Slot says only two teams in Premier League title race

Arne Slot has ruled Liverpool out of the title race and believes there are only ‘realistically’ two teams that can win the Premier League this season.

Liverpool have endured a difficult defence of the title and currently sit fourth in the table after a disappointing draw with Leeds on New Year’s Day. The Reds are already 12 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s trip to Fulham, Slot said he believes the title race will be between the table-topping Gunners and Manchester City, who sit second.

The Citizens are four points adrift of Arsenal ahead of the weekend action, with third-placed Aston Villa two points further back.

“Realistically I think there are two teams,” Slot said on the title race at his pre-match press conference.

“[Aston] Villa are really close but Arsenal created a bit of a gap by beating Villa and those two teams are quite far away from us and we should not look at those two at this moment in time.

“We have had our struggles throughout. We started really well in terms of results, games were really close, then we had a phase of the season where games were still really close but we were constantly unlucky.

“Now we have been eight games unbeaten but if you say this you feel like: ‘They are flying through the league.’ But that is not what we are doing. Every single game we play it’s hard work. We are mainly the team that is probably better but not enough.”
