Leeds United host Chelsea on Wednesday, desperate to end a damaging run of form that has left them in the relegation zone.
Daniel Farke’s side showed immense character last weekend. In fact, they fought back from 2-0 down against Manchester City, only to lose to a stoppage-time winner. Now, they must channel that spirit from the first whistle.
The Whites have struggled defensively. Alarmingly, they have conceded in each of their last nine league games. However, Elland Road has provided some comfort, with two wins and two draws this season. Furthermore, they face a Chelsea side that has historically struggled in West Yorkshire. The Blues have won just six of their 48 away league games against Leeds.
Leeds United team news
Leeds have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of the visit of Chelsea, confirming that winger Daniel James will be sidelined for at least eight weeks. The Welsh international has suffered a significant hamstring tendon injury and could face surgery, ruling him out until the new year. The midfield has also been hit, with Sean Longstaff ruled out for the remainder of 2025 due to a calf injury. Defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is also a major doubt and faces a late fitness test on a knee issue.
However, there is positive news elsewhere for the Whites. Midfielder Anton Stach has successfully completed concussion protocols and returned to full team training, making him “definitely available” for selection. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow is also fit again after shaking off a minor adductor injury that kept him out of the trip to Manchester City. In attack, the in-form Lukas Nmecha—who has scored in back-to-back games—is expected to lead the line alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
