Roy Keane has questioned whether some of Manchester United’s side ‘want to run’ and believes the Red Devils are a ‘physically and mentally weak’ team.
Manchester United were thrashed 4-1 at Newcastle on Sunday to continue a demoralising season at Old Trafford. The defeat was United’s 14th of the Premier League campaign and leaves Ruben Amorim’s side 14th in the table. United have never previously finished lower than eighth in the Premier League era.

Newcastle were the dominant side from start to finish, as Harvey Barnes’ double and goals from Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes took the Magpies into the top four. After victory at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign, Newcastle have completed a league double over Manchester United for the first time since 1931.
Keane called Newcastle’s performance ‘outstanding’ but the former Manchester United captain was quick to point out the weaknesses in his old side.
“We keep making excuses for this Man United team. There aren’t enough players that can run in this team, I think there are players that don’t want to run,” he said to Sky Sports.
“Newcastle were outstanding. I think United now are physically and mentally a weak team. Newcastle were too fast, too powerful, they were more determined and they got what they deserved.
“Well done Newcastle, they were outstanding but United, there was talk before the game that things were getting better for this United team but I can’t see it. I worry for this group of players. To me, they do not look like a strong group mentally.”
