Business is closed for Premier League clubs after the end of the summer transfer window. England’s elite again led their continental counterparts for spending but which clubs spent the most?
The five highest-spending Premier League clubs of the summer window
5. West Ham (£132.5m)
West Ham backed new head coach Julen Lopetegui with more than £132m spent on new arrivals. The Irons were busy during an eye-catching summer of signings, headlined by the arrivals of Borussia Dortmund forward Nicklas Fullkrug, World Cup winner Guido Rodriguez, and highly-coveted centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.
Max Kilman was the most expensive acquisition after a £40m arrival from Wolves, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka adds further Premier League experience to the backline. There are also high hopes for Crysencio Summerville, who was named Championship Player of the Year at Leeds United in 2023/24.

4. Tottenham (£133.5m)
Tottenham were responsible for the biggest signing of the summer after breaking their transfer record to land Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.
The £65m fee for the forward was almost half of their entire outlay, that also saw highly-rated teenagers Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Lucas Bergvall arrive in North London. Ange Postecoglou is building for the future.
3. Manchester United (£189m)
Manchester United’s first summer under new co-owners Ineos was a busy one with five first-team arrivals brought in for a combined fee of around £189m
The Red Devils beat Real Madrid to the signing of Leny Yoro after trumping the European champion’s bid for the defender, while Erik ten Hag has reunited with ex-Ajax duo Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, who were free to leave Bayern Munich.
Joshua Zirkzee has arrived in England with the Serie A Young Player of the Year award in his possession, while Manuel Ugarte will aim to add bite to a midfield that has been too often exposed in recent campaigns.
2. Brighton (£192m)
Brighton have often topped the biggest sales list, but the Seagulls loosened their purse strings this time around.
Fabian Hurzeler was handed £192m to strengthen his squad, with Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter, Ferdi Kadioglu and Matt O’Riley all exciting additions. Brighton had the highest net spend (£151.1m) of any club in world football.

1. Chelsea (£219.6m)
No prizes for guessing who leads this list with Chelsea’s astonishing spending continuing during the 2024 summer window.
After breaking the record for the highest-ever January and summer window spends in recent campaigns, the West Londoners again left the rest of the Premier League trailing with their recruitment this time around.

Chelsea spent £219.6m on new talent, with around £100m splashed on Portugal internationals Pedro Neto and Joao Felix. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was snapped up by Enzo Maresca from former club Leicester, while Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga, Marc Guiu, Caleb Wiley and Aaron Anselimo were all signed with a view to the future.
The Blues even had time to bring in Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United on deadline day. The club’s admin staff will be pleased to see the window slam shut.
