Bruno Guimaraes has joked he was like Alan Shearer in the penalty box after scoring a late winner for Newcastle against Fulham.
Guimaraes’ goal earned Newcastle a 2-1 win over Fulham at St James’ Park on Saturday. The Brazilian’s last-gasp goal sealed an important three points for the Magpies, after Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic had cancelled out Jacob Murphy’s opener for the home side.
The win saw Eddie Howe’s side bounce back from last week’s setback at Brighton, climbing back into the Premier League’s top half.

Speaking at full-time, Guimaraes jokingly compared himself to Newcastle record scorer Shearer after a poacher’s goal to win it.
“To be fair we were a little bit tired from the Champions League game on Wednesday,” Guimaraes said to Final Score.
“It was a big shift from us. We have been punished at the end of games, like Arsenal and Liverpool, and now we score at the end. I’m pleased for everyone. Please for (William) Osula, who came in the end to dribble and shoot.
“I was ready for the rebound, like Shearer! A beautiful goal in front of the Gallowgate. A very good moment.”
