Ex-Man United manager sacked after just two league games

Erik ten Hag has just been sacked as head coach of Bayer Leverkusen just two games into the new Bundesliga season.

Ten Hag was appointed as head coach of the German side in the summer, following Xabi Alonso’s departure to take charge of Real Madrid.

The Dutchman has endured a winless start to the Bundesliga season, with Leverkusen losing at home to Hoffenheim in their opener before blowing a 3-1 lead to draw with Werder Bremen at the weekend.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Leverkusen have now made the decision to sack Ten Hag. The 55-year-old has reportedly been informed of the decision and will leave with immediate effect.

It’s a surprise decision from Leverkusen, with Ten Hag inheriting a decimated squad this summer. In addition to Alonso’s exit, Leverkusen have lost key players including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah and Granit Xhaka in the summer window.
