Achraf Hakimi has been named African Footballer of the Year for 2025, following an outstanding season of success at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Moroccan was a driving force in PSG’s all-conquering campaign, as the French side won a Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions and Champions League quadruple. The latter success ended PSG’s wait for a maiden European crown.
Hakimi, who also finished sixth in the Ballon d’Or vote, finished ahead of Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen in the 2025 African Footballer of the Year vote. His first-ever award follows runners-up finishes in 2023 and 2024, to Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman respectively.
He’s just the fifth Moroccan to win the award and first since Mustapha Hadji in 1998. Hakimi is also the first defender since 1973 to win the prestigious prize.
