Maresca makes cryptic Chelsea complaint after ‘worst 48 hours’

Enzo Maresca complained of a lack of support after enduring his “worst 48 hours” as Chelsea manager following Saturday’s win over Everton.

Cole Palmer scored his first Premier League goal in three months to put the Blues ahead at Stamford Bridge before Malo Gusto doubled their lead on the stroke of halftime.

The victory snapped a four-match winless run for the west London outfit, but Maresca was not in a celebratory mood in his post-match press conference.

The Italian said there are “so many problems” and praise his players for “doing very well after a complicated week”.

“Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn’t support us,” he revealed.

When asked to elaborate on what he meant, Maresca answered: “Worst 48 hours since I joined the club because people didn’t support me and the team.”

Maresca did not offer specifics, adding that it was people “in general” – not including the supporters – who were not providing support. “I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans,” he said.

The Chelsea boss was, nonetheless, satisfied with a much needed win to take them back into the top four, at least until Aston Villa play on Sunday.

“I think it was a very important win. Everton were in good form in the last week with so it was important to win today’s game. I think we completely deserved to win the game and the effort from the players has been fantastic.”
