Manchester United crashed out of the Carabao Cup after a 2-1 defeat to high flying Championship side Bristol City. Here are how the players rated.
Bristol City
Luke Steele 7
Will be disappointed with Man Utd’s equaliser, but will only have seen the ball late. Made some other excellent saves.
Bailey Wright 7
Initially struggled against Anthony Martial, but defended well overall.
Aden Flint 8
Excellent at the back for the Championship side.
Nathan Baker 7
Defended well against the big guns of Manchester United side.
Hordur Magnusson 6
Solid performance at the back, and caused danger with his long throws.
Josh Brownhill 6
Energetic down the Bristol right before being replaced by Eliasson.
Marlon Pack 7
Did a man marking job on Paul Pogba, and frustrated the Frenchman throughout.
Korey Smith 8
Gave away the free kick for the Man Utd equaliser, but made up for it with a late winner in stoppage time.
Joe Bryan 8
Scored the opener with an absolute screamer from an almost impossible angle. An incredible strike.
Jamie Paterson 6
Booked for a poor sliding tackle on Pogba early in the second half.
Bobby Reid 6
Worked hard but didn’t get many opportunities.
Subs
Taylor, Eliasson,
Manchester United
Sergio Romero 6
Nothing he could do for the goal, but commanded his box relatively well
Matteo Darmian 6
Offered very little going forward, and should have maybe done better with Bristol’s opener.
Victor Lindelof 6
Did ok at the back, but lost Korey Smith for the Bristol winner.
Marcos Rojo 7
Commanding in the air at the back from the returning Argentine. Maybe could have got closer to Bryan for the first goal.
Luke Shaw 6
Did well defensively, but didn’t get forward as much as we have seen in recent games.
Daley Blind 6
Surprised many by starting as a midfielder for the first time in years, but did a decent job, making an excellent last ditch tackle in the first half. Replaced by Romelu Lukaku.
Scott McTominay 5
Could have done better positionally for both goals and didn’t really get involved in the game too much.
Paul Pogba 6
Looked a little rusty and could have seen red for a mistimed high challenge in the first half.
Marcus Rashford 6
Saw a fantastic effort cannon off the post in the first half. A busy performance but didn’t have a great deal of opportunities.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic 6
His first start since his injury but didn’t look like the Zlatan of old, until he smashed in a low free kick. A great strike. Otherwise, about as rusty as the Titanic. Replaced by forgotten man Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Anthony Martial 6
Looked dangerous down the Man Utd left, but unable to create that killer chance.
Subs
Lukaku 7, Mkhitaryan 7, Smalling N/A
