Alexander Sørloth remains sidelined after sustaining a heavy head knock in the stalemate against Levante, where he was carried off on a stretcher and taken to the hospital. Subsequent examinations ruled out fractures and other serious damage, but he will not feature again until he has successfully passed the necessary concussion protocols.
There is more optimism around Antoine Griezmann. The French forward suffered a mild muscle problem in his left thigh during training in the build-up to the recent league victory over Mallorca, initially casting doubt over his availability. Even so, multiple reports suggest he has advanced well in his rehabilitation, returned to full training, and could be included in the squad for this cup clash.
Midfielder Pablo Barrios also appears to be back in the frame, having left the pitch with a minor complaint against Levante. He has completed full training sessions this week and is pushing to start again in Diego Simeone’s midfield.
Atletico have also been boosted by the high-profile signing of Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, in a move believed to be worth around 35 million euros, bringing additional speed and invention to their forward line. However, the Nigerian attacker is not expected to play a part in this particular fixture.
