Arne Slot closes book on Mo Salah saga as Liverpool beat Brighton

Arne Slot hopes he can now put the Mo Salah situation behind him after the winger helped Liverpool to victory over Brighton on Saturday.

The Egypt international was left at home for Tuesday’s win at Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League after dropping a bombshell interview last weekend.

After being an unused substitute for Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Leeds United, the 33-year-old told reporters of his frustration at being named on the bench for a third game in a row and that his relationship with the manager was non-existent.

Slot put the disgruntled star back in the matchday squad for the visit of Brighton following successful talks between the pair on Friday.

Salah was unexpectedly introduced in the 26th minute as a replacement for Joe Gomez, who was forced off with a knock. He went on to provide the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s second goal of the game as the Reds secured their first Premier League win in three games.

“He was a threat for us constantly,” Slot told BBC Match of the Day. “He was constantly involved in moments that we created, the first ball he touched was almost an assist with Mac Allister and then he had the assist with the corner kick and he was close to scoring himself.

“It was good to see that he was out there and a threat. Pleasing to see.”

Salah will now head off to represent Egypt at AFCON, while Slot is hopeful that the saga is now at an end.

“For me, the situation when I spoke to him yesterday and for him being on the bench and coming off as the first substitution, that means it has settled down,” said the Dutchman.

“But if the outside world wants to keep talking about it or there are other reasons people keep talking about it, that’s fine with me.

“The conversation yesterday and the actions of today that he and I did speaks for itself.”
