Dembele edges closer to Spurs exit

Spurs midfielder Mousa Dembele is reportedly edging closer towards a permanent exit from North London following heavy interest from the Chinese Super League.

The BBC is reporting the midfielder has flown out to China to finalise an £11 million move to Beijing Guoan. However, unforeseen complications has killed that particular move, although fellow Chinese club Guangzhou R&F have stepped in, and have now emerged as Dembele’s future employers with a deal likely this week.

Belgium international Dembele has been at Spurs since 2012, following a £15 million move from Fulham. He has played a significant role in the recent successes despite a competitive squad of players at Spurs.

He has struggled for game time this season under Mauricio Pochettino though, featuring just 13 times in all competitions as he struggles to keep up with the physical demands of the English top-flight, with a number of injuries taking their toll.

A move to China will see him earn a lucrative contract, with the London Evening Standard saying he will ‘substantially increase his £80,000-a-week wages’.
