Argentina extend remarkable World Cup semi-final record

Argentina have reached the World Cup final once again after beating England in Atlanta on Wednesday night.

The world champions left it late to secure a 2-1 win, as goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez sealed a dramatic comeback result.

La Albiceleste are now one win from successive World Cup trophies, and certainly know how to get over the line in big games.

Argentina extended one of the most remarkable World Cup records ever after beating England, continuing their 100% record in semi-final ties.

Argentina have now won all six of their World Cup semi-final games, extending an incredible 100% record against England this week.

That number does not even include the 1978 tournament, when Argentina became world champions for the first time. That tournament featured a second group stage, in which the two group winners progressed to the final.

Argentina’s 100% record in World Cup semi-finals

  • Argentina 6-1 United States – 1930
  • Argentina 2-0 Belgium – 1986
  • Argentina 1-1 Italy (4-3 penalties) – 1990
  • Netherlands 0-0 Argentina (2-4 penalties) – 2014
  • Argentina 3-0 Croatia – 2022
  • England 1-2 Argentina – 2026
