Scotland are back at the FIFA World Cup after a long 28-year absence, and they will begin their campaign against Haiti, who are also making a return after 52 years away from the tournament.
The Scottish team heads into the competition in strong form. After suffering narrow 1-0 defeats to Japan and Ivory Coast in spring friendlies, they responded impressively in their final preparation matches.
Steve Clarke’s side delivered convincing performances, beating Curaçao 4-1 and then dominating Bolivia with a 4-0 win. Scoring eight goals across those two games, Scotland appear sharp in attack and full of confidence at just the right moment.
Scotland team news
There is positive news for Scotland as manager Steve Clarke confirmed that key midfielder Scott McTominay has fully recovered from a recent stomach illness.
Although McTominay missed a few training sessions earlier in the week, he is now fit and expected to be in the starting lineup.
However, Scotland have been dealt a significant setback with Billy Gilmour ruled out of the entire tournament due to a serious knee injury picked up in the warm-up match against Curaçao.
To fill the gap, Manchester United’s young talent Tyler Fletcher has been added to the squad.
Meanwhile, defenders Scott McKenna and Nathan Patterson are under observation after picking up minor injuries, but both are still available for selection if needed.
Up front, striker Che Adams is fully fit and ready to lead the attack, likely partnering Lawrence Shankland as Scotland look to make a strong start.
