Ederson backed to succeed at Man Utd by AC Milan star

Ederson has been backed by AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek to succeed at Manchester United after they agreed a transfer fee with the Italian club.

The Red Devils will pay an initial £34m, which could rise up to plus £3.8m in potential add-ons for the Brazilian, who will sign a four-year contract with an option for an additional year.

The deal is expected to be completed by the end of June and would make Ederson the firth signing of the Michael Carrick era.

The 26-year-old, who will replace the departing Casemiro in the team, has long been admired by United for his ability as both a passer and tackler in the middle of the pitch. The club could sign another midfielder if Manuel Ugarte is sold.

Loftus-Cheek believes Ederson is a “good signing” for United and has the physical traits needed to play in the Premier League.

“I think he’ll do just fine,” he told Sky Sports at the Monaco Grand Prix. “The times we’ve played against each other [in Serie A] he’s been very physical, he’s quick and strong, he good on the ball. He’ll do really well and he’s a good signing.”

Meanwhile, with just one year remaining on his contract, Loftus-Cheek faces an uncertain future at Milan. The Italian giant may look to sell some of their first-team players after failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

“I can’t say much at the minute,” the former Chelsea player said. “Right now I’m taking my time to relax and enjoy the holidays. I’m resting, spending time with my family and supporting the [England] team.

“Hopefully the boys can do well and we’ll have a good summer. They have plenty of quality to do really well.”
