Harry Maguire has said he is ‘shocked and gutted’ to have been left out of England’s World Cup squad.
Thomas Tuchel will name his squad for the tournament this morning with some selections having already filtered into the mainstream media.
Maguire took to social media to confirm his omission from the World Cup squad, with the Manchester United centre-back admitting he was surprised by the decision.
“I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision,” Maguire said.
“I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players, all the best this summer.”

Maguire had earned an international recall in March, having had an influential role on Manchester United’s impressive form under Michael Carrick. Despite helping the Red Devils to Champions League qualification, Tuchel has opted against selecting the 33-year-old for this summer’s tournament. The official squad announcement is at 9:45am BST.
