Chelsea boss delivers ‘promising’ injury update ahead of Forest tie

Chelsea interim manager Calum McFarlane revealed that both Reece James and Levi Colwill look “promising” for a return from injury ahead of this weekend’s game against Nottingham Forest.

The Blues host the Tricky Trees at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Monday, with kickoff slated for 8pm.

There are a number of injury concerns facing Chelsea ahead of the match, but McFarlane confirmed that both players have returned to training this week and are closing in on a return to action.

Captain James has been out of action since sustaining a hamstring injury against Newcastle United in mid-March, while Colwill has missed the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign with a serious knee issue.

“Levi is back in training. Both looking good. Little bit of a way to the game so we’ll see how they do day by day, but both are looking promising,” McFarlane said in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

“We’re taking it day by day. Levi has had a long injury. Reece had a really good run and has been injured again. There’s a lot of games still to play, so we don’t want to push too much. Hopefully they’ll come through.”

Asked whether both players could make the squad for the game against Forest, McFarlane responded: “Potentially, yeah.”
