Erling Haaland took a step closer to a third career Premier League Golden Boot after finding the net in Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Burnley on Wednesday.
Haaland’s fifth-minute goal at Turf Moor secured the result needed to take City to the top of the Premier League. The Norwegian’s early winner followed his decisive goal against Arsenal at the weekend, and strengthened his grip on the Premier League Golden Boot race.
After a third-place finish in 2024/25, behind Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak, Haaland is determined to regain the prize he won in each of his first two seasons at the Etihad. Haaland has scored 24 league goals this season, already eclipsing the 22 managed during an injury-impacted campaign last term.
With five games to go, the Premier League Golden Boot has emerged as a two-horse race. Haaland’s closest competition is Igor Thiago, following a spectacular season from the Brentford forward. Thiago has scored 21 league goals in a remarkable campaign, after an ACL injury derailed his debut season in West London.
Haaland’s club teammate, Antoine Semenyo, sits third in the standings with 15 goals. Last season, five different players breached the 20-goal mark in the Premier League: Salah, Isak, Haaland, Bryan Mbeumo, and Chris Wood. Barring a late purple patch, it looks likely that only two will manage to achieve that feat in 2025/26.
Golden Boot standings: Premier League top scorers 2025/26
- Erling Haaland – Manchester City (24)
- Igor Thiago – Brentford (21)
- Antoine Semenyo – Manchester City (15)*
- Joao Pedro – Chelsea (14)
- Danny Welbeck – Brighton (13)
*Antoine Semenyo scored 10 league goals for Bournemouth before his January transfer to Manchester City. He’s scored a further five Premier League goals for the Citizens.
