Ibrahima Konate is likely to stay at Liverpool despite no breakthrough on a new contract.
Konate’s current deal expires at the end of the season and the centre-back is yet to reach terms on an extension.
Despite that, internal figures at Liverpool believe the France international is likely to sign a new deal and remain at Anfield.
According to The Athletic, Konate is demanding a significant increase on his £150,000-a-week wages to remain with the Premier League champions.
The defender, who has made 173 appearances since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021, wants a contract that puts him in line with some of the club’s top earners.
Though there has been no breakthrough, there is optimism a deal can be done. Former suitors Real Madrid have distanced themselves from a move, while it remains to be seen whether rival clubs are willing to match Konate’s demands. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have been linked.
In an interview this month, Konate suggested he would be staying at Liverpool after talking positively about the club’s future.
