The Netherlands face Ecuador in an international friendly at Philips Stadion in Eindhoven on Tuesday, with both teams treating the game as an important part of their build-up to the 2026 World Cup.
Ronald Koeman’s side are in strong form, having gone unbeaten in their last nine matches and winning seven of them. They also came from behind to beat Norway 2-1 in their previous game, and their attack has looked sharp, with at least three goals scored in four of their last six matches.
Netherlands team news
The Dutch are likely to make only a few changes from the team that faced Norway, with Bart Verbruggen expected to stay in goal. Virgil van Dijk should also keep his place in defence, even if Koeman decides to rotate some of the other positions.
Xavi Simons could be handed a midfield role, while the attacking line may also see some changes. Memphis Depay and Jurrien Timber are both unavailable because of injury, which limits Koeman’s options a little.
Donyell Malen led the line against Norway and was later replaced by Brian Brobbey, while Wout Weghorst is another option if Koeman wants a different type of centre forward. Malen could either move to the right side or start on the bench, while Cody Gakpo is also expected to feature.
Netherlands predicted lineup
Possible Netherlands starting XI: Verbruggen; Dumfries, Van Hecke, Van Dijk, Van de Ven; Gravenberch, Smit; Koopmeiners, Simons, Gakpo; Brobbey
