Chelsea crashed to a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions after losing 3-0 at Everton on Saturday.
The result was a major blow to the Blues’ hopes of securing Champions League football, while the manner of the defeat has spread concern through Chelsea circles.
The West Londoners headed to Hill Dickinson Stadium with the second-best away record in the Premier League, but were beaten heavily as goals from Beto (2) and Illiman Ndiaye earned Everton the points.
Chelsea have now conceded 12 goals across their last four games, a painful run of results that included an emphatic European exit against Paris Saint-Germain.
The under-lying data paints a grim picture. According to Match of the Day, Chelsea have been outran in every single Premier League game played this season.
Under both former manager Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, Chelsea have covered less ground than every opponent across their 31 league fixtures.
It comes despite having the youngest average age among all Premier League squads. Everton’s starting lineup had an average age almost five years older than Chelsea’s at the weekend, but the Toffees outworked the West Londoners in distance covered, intensive runs, sprints, and duels won.
It’s a recurring theme that Chelsea must address.
