Salah and Ekitike benched as Liverpool name team to face Spurs

Arne Slot has named Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike on the bench as Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Liverpool host Spurs at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in a fixture of huge importance for both sides. Despite the Reds requiring a win for their Champions League qualification hopes, Slot has named Salah and Ekitike among the substitutes.

Both begin on the bench ahead of a crucial Champions League last-16 second leg against Galatasaray in midweek.

Cody Gakpo is expected to start at centre-forward, with teenager Rio Ngumoha wide on the left. Florian Wirtz will offer support from an advanced midfield role.

There’s positive news in goal as Alisson Becker returns from injury, replacing Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool team to face Tottenham:

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Wirtz, Gakpo, Ngumoha.

Substitutes: Mamardashvili, Konate, Kerkez, Jones, Chiesa, Salah, Ekitike, Nyoni, Ramsay.
