Burnley vs Bournemouth – Match preview and team news

Burnley welcome Bournemouth to Turf Moor this afternoon with their Premier League status hanging by a thread and time rapidly running out for a “great escape.”

The Clarets return to action after a ten-day break following a demoralising 2–0 defeat to Everton, a result that left them nine points adrift of safety with only nine games remaining. Scott Parker’s side is currently enduring a miserable run of just one win in their last 20 league matches.

Furthermore, Burnley are winless in their last 10 home league games; a failure to secure three points on Saturday would see the club set a new unwanted record of 11 consecutive home matches without a win in a single season.

Bournemouth arrive in Lancashire as the division’s form side, boasting the longest current unbeaten run in the Premier League. Andoni Iraola’s men have gone nine games without defeat, catapulting them into 9th place and back into the conversation for European qualification.

Despite this impressive streak, the Cherries have drawn four of their last five matches, including three consecutive stalemates. While they enter as favourites, Iraola will be wary of his side’s record against newly-promoted opposition this term, as Bournemouth are yet to record a victory in four such attempts.

Team News

Burnley

Scott Parker deals with a significant injury list, with Josh Cullen, Zeki Amdouni, Connor Roberts, and Axel Tuanzebe all confirmed absentees. Armando Broja and Mike Trésor have returned to light training, but the game is expected to come too soon for both. Notably, joint-top scorer Zian Flemming faces a late fitness test along with Marcus Edwards. If fit, Flemming will look to score in his third consecutive Premier League appearance.

Bournemouth

The visitors remain without Justin Kluivert (knee), Ben Gannon-Doak (thigh), and Lewis Cook (hamstring). Notably, Amine Adli and David Brooks are pushing for starts in the final third, though they face stiff competition from January signing Rayan and Marcus Tavernier. Alex Jiménez and Marcos Senesi are expected to anchor a defence that has kept three clean sheets in its last six outings.

Form

Burnley

The Clarets have struggled to find the back of the net early, having opened the scoring in a league-low five games this season. Their defensive struggles are also evident, as only Manchester United games have featured more total goals than Burnley’s 90. Significantly, Burnley have conceded more goals from crosses (13) than any other side in the Premier League this term.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth’s away matches have been high-scoring affairs, averaging a league-high 1.86 first-half goals per game. The Cherries have developed a potent counter-attacking style, with only Arsenal and Chelsea recording more direct attacks this season. However, Iraola’s side has shown vulnerability late in games, conceding a joint-league high nine away goals after the 75th minute.

Predicted Lineups

Burnley Predicted XI (3-5-2): Dubravka; Humphreys, Worrall, Esteve; Walker, Ugochukwu, Florentino, Hannibal, Pires; Anthony, Foster

Bournemouth Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Jimenez, Hill, Senesi, Truffert; Adams, Scott; Rayan, Kroupi, Tavernier; Evanilson
