Rogers sets sight on historic Europa League win with Aston Villa

Morgan Rogers has said Aston Villa are determined to win the Europa League ahead of tonight’s tie at Lille.

Aston Villa head to France for the first leg of their last-16 tie against the Ligue 1 outfit this evening.

The Villans have never won the Europa League, but are among the tournament favourites after a strong campaign to date. Head coach Unai Emery is also vastly experienced in the competition, having won a record-breaking four Europa League trophies as a manager, three with Sevilla and one with Villarreal.

Despite the tense race for Champions League qualification domestically, Rogers has said Villa will prioritise both competitions.

He admitted the club will take it ‘one game at a time’ but said the ambition is to end the campaign with European silverware.

“Yes, 100%. We’re in every competition to win, otherwise there’s no point in being there,” he said at a pre-game press conference.

“But we have to take one game at a time and this is a massive test and a massive, massive tie for us.

“To win the tournament, you’ve got to beat teams like this and show why you deserve to, but that’s a long way ahead.

“We’ve got rounds to go before, so hopefully we deal with this one, then move on forward.

“But yes, of course, you’re in every competition to win.”
