Liam Rosenior has said qualifying for the Champions League ‘has to be’ the aim for Chelsea to make the campaign successful.
Chelsea face top-five rivals Aston Villa at Villa Park tonight in a huge clash for both team’s European ambitions.
A win for Chelsea would move them back above Liverpool into fifth, a position almost certain to guarantee Champions League football, due to England’s leading co-efficient.
Rosenior has admitted that anything less than a place in Europe’s elite would be a disappointment, and believes Chelsea are also capable of winning silverware.
After the trip to Aston Villa, Chelsea face Wrexham in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday, before the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain.
Asked what can be achieved this season, Rosenior told his pre-match press conference: “A successful season for Chelsea has to be qualify for the Champions League, it has to be.
“Where we are, we still have a very, very good chance of achieving that. Also to win a trophy would be amazing, and I think it’s something that is achievable.”
