Darwin Nunez keen on Premier League return with clubs contacted

Darwin Nunez is keen to leave Al Hilal this summer and return to the Premier League.

Nunez signed for the Saudi Pro League side from Liverpool last summer for a fee in the region of £46m. The Uruguayan forward has endured a tough time in the Middle East, scoring nine times in 24 appearances during an injury-impacted debut campaign.

The 26-year-old is unsettled in Saudi Arabia having been excluded from the club’s squad for domestic competition.

Nunez was omitted from the Saudi Pro League squad in January, following the arrival of Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad, due to foreign player registration rules. He remains eligible to play in the AFC Champions League and scored twice in the 2-1 win over Al Wahda on February 16th.

Nunez is exploring his options ahead of the summer and is keen to return to England. According to Fabrizio Romano, the player’s representatives have started sounding out clubs to gauge interest, with Newcastle United and Tottenham among those approached.

The forward scored 43 goals in 140 appearances for Liverpool during his previous spell in English football.
