Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said this weekend’s fixture with Manchester City will be a good gauge of the development of his team.
Liverpool host Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday in one of the most eagerly-anticipated games on the English calendar.
The Reds were beaten emphatically during the reverse fixture at the Etihad, losing 3-0 during a tough period of form.
That result was fifth defeat in six league games for Liverpool but the champions have improved since those struggles in the autumn.
Slot’s side have lost just one of their last 12 in the Premier League and the Dutchman believes the visit of City will be a test of his side’s progress.
“I mainly remember the game we played there and outplayed for large parts in the first half, so this is another moment to see where we are in the development of this team,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“We know the importance of a result. It’s the end phase of the season so results matter more and it’s a very good team that beat Newcastle not even with their starters, so that tells you with the game we played against them what a force Man City still is and always will be.”
