Arsenal dealt major blow as Saka injured in warm up

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka sustained an injury during the warm-up ahead of their Premier League clash with Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

The winger was doing rondos with his teammates when he pulled up and grabbed his leg. He then left the warm-up and looked in discomfort as he walked down the tunnel.

Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta replaced Saka with Noni Madueke in his starting lineup, forming a front three partnership with Viktor Gyokeres and Leandro Trossard.

Incidentally, the 24-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in the previous meeting between the two sides in August which kept him sidelined for a month.

Since the start of last season, Arsenal have averaged 2.1 points with a 58.7 per cent win record with him in the team and 1.9 points at a 53.3 per cent win record without.

In other team news, Kai Havertz replaced captain Martin Odegaard in the starting lineup to make his first Premier League start of the season. The German playmaker suffered a knee injury against Manchester United on the opening day of the campaign, causing him to miss over four months of action.

“It has been a long time, but he looked good. With the type of game we expected, we decided to go with him,” Arteta explained ahead of kickoff.

Mikel Merino, meanwhile, has been left out of the matchday squad after hurting his foot. The manager said: “He has an issue in his foot. A bone giving him some pain. We had some exams, but we need more specialists to look at it and see how long he is going to be out.”
