Former Liverpool midfielder says Newcastle clash a ‘huge game for Arne Slot’

Danny Murphy has backed Liverpool to get back on track against Newcastle in a ‘huge game’ in the Premier League this weekend.

Liverpool face Newcastle at Anfield on Saturday night with both teams pursuing a place in next season’s Champions League.

Arne Slot’s side have failed to win in their last five Premier League games, drawing four consecutive fixtures before a late loss at Bournemouth last weekend.

Liverpool did beat Qarabag in Europe in midweek to boost morale, securing a convincing 6-0 win against the Azerbaijani side.

Murphy has backed his former side to end their winless league run, insisting the ‘desperate’ need for a result – and Newcastle’s poor away record in the Premier League this season – can see Liverpool get back on track.

Speaking to Essential Football for their Premier League predictions preview, Murphy tipped Liverpool to secure a narrow win at Anfield.

“Newcastle are struggling on the road. Liverpool are in desperate need of a result,” he said.

“It’s a huge game for Arne Slot. At Anfield, with the fans behind them and a point to prove, I’ll go Liverpool 2–1.”
