Roy Keane has insisted Michael Carrick should not become the permanent manager at Manchester United even if he wins every remaining game this season.
Carrick’s interim reign has started in brilliant style with back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.
United have beaten the Premier League’s top two in consecutive games, while Sunday’s win in North London saw the Red Devils become the first team to beat Arsenal at the Emirates all season.
Those wins have lifted Manchester United into the Champions League places and have sparked talk about Carrick’s credentials for the permanent position.
However, former Manchester United captain Keane argued against the interim boss, insisting the club need a ‘bigger and better’ manager to get back to winning league titles.
“Two great performances but anyone can win two games,” Keane said on Sky Sports following the 3-2 win against Arsenal.
“If United win every game until the end of the season, I still wouldn’t be giving him the job. I still wouldn’t be convinced he’s the man for the job. Absolutely not.
“They need a bigger and better manager. The size of the club and the challenges they face over the next few years, you want a manager who you feel can get them winning league titles.
“Are we going to sit here and believe Michael Carrick can get United winning league titles? It’s not enough for me. I don’t believe he is the man to get them winning league titles.”
