Chelsea are considering recalling Kendry Paez from his season-long loan spell at Strasbourg.
Head coach Liam Rosenior worked with Paez during his time with the French side and is weighing up a move to bring the teenager back into his Chelsea squad, or find an alternative loan.
The 18-year-old has struggled for a regular role at Strasbourg, with just four of his 15 Ligue 1 appearances coming from the start. He has scored once in that time.
Paez is considered one of world football’s brightest prospects in his age group and Chelsea want to ensure his development runs smoothly.
There are internal discussions about a potential loan recall and move to a club in England, to allow the teenager time to adjust to the demands of the English game. Birmingham City and Ipswich Town have been linked with a move for the midfielder, who has already earned 23 senior caps for Ecuador.
Paez is expected to rejoin the Chelsea senior squad in the summer with a view to forming part of Rosenior’s main group.
