Juventus vs Cremonese – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Monday, 12th January.
  • Kick-off: 7:45pm BST.
  • Venue: Allianz Stadium, Torino.

Juventus team news

Juventus come into this Serie A clash with several key players still sidelined, but a largely stable core available for Spalletti. Dusan Vlahovic, Daniele Rugani and Federico Gatti remain on the treatment table, depriving Juventus of a centre-forward alternative and some depth in central defence.

Francisco Conceição is in doubt after being forced off with a muscular issue in the recent fixtures, although tests ruled out a serious muscle injury, and his condition is being monitored day by day.

Jonathan David is set to lead the line again after finally ending his Serie A goal drought with a cathartic strike in the 3-0 win away to Sassuolo. Spalletti has publicly backed the Canadian, noting that starting him again can boost his confidence after “a great match”.

Cremonese team news

In attack, Cremonese are expected to continue with Federico Bonazzoli alongside top scorer Jamie Vardy, who ended the team’s near 400-minute goal drought with his strike against Cagliari and also scored in the reverse fixture against Juventus in November.

Dennis Johnsen has strengthened his claim for a starting berth after finding the net in that Cagliari draw. Elsewhere, Michele Collocolo has returned from a thigh injury and has been called up for the trip to Turin, although he is likely to be eased back into action after several months out.

Form

Juventus

Juventus’ mid-season revival has been built on defensive solidity and increasing attacking fluency. They responded to a frustrating 1-1 draw with Lecce by comprehensively beating Sassuolo 3-0 away, going ahead inside 16 minutes and rarely looking troubled in Reggio Emilia.

Under Spalletti, the Bianconeri have won eight of their last 10 games in all competitions – as many victories as in their previous 21 competitive matches – and they are currently unbeaten in 13 Serie A home fixtures.

Cremonese

Cremonese, by contrast, have tailed off after a promising start to their comeback Serie A campaign.

Defeats to Napoli and Torino, plus a goalless draw with Lazio, were followed by the loss to Fiorentina and the damaging 2-2 home draw with Cagliari, leaving Nicola’s side with just two points from their last five league games.

While they remain relatively safe in mid-table, their recent slump and ongoing struggles in front of goal – they failed to score in three consecutive away matches before the Cagliari game – are significant concerns ahead of a trip to one of Italy’s form teams.

Predicted lineups

Juventus: Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Bremer, Koopmeiners; McKennie, Locatelli, Thuram, Cambiaso; Miretti, Yildiz; David.

Cremonese: Audero; Terracciano, Baschirotto, Bianchetti; Zerbin, Payero, Grassi, Vandeputte, Pezzella; Bonazzoli, Vardy.
