Crystal Palace are targeting a move for Strasbourg star Joaquin Panichelli as a potential replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Mateta has entered the final 18 months of his deal at Selhurst Park and has so far refused to sign an extension in South London.
The 28-year-old has scored 38 goals in the Premier League across the last two-and-a-half seasons to attract interest from top teams.
Mateta made his debut or France in the autumn and has scored twice in three international caps, while a place in Les Bleus’ World Cup squad could further raise his profile.
It is understood the forward is considering his options amid interest from Champions League teams and Palace are prepared to sell at the right price in the summer. In the Premier League, both Manchester United and Aston Villa are weighing up moves.
The Eagles have already began the search for a replacement with Panichelli high on the list. Journalist Alan Nixon has claimed Palace are tracking the player’s performances in Ligue 1 this season.
Panichelli signed for Strasbourg from Alaves in the summer after a prolific campaign on loan at Mirandes in Spain’s Segunda Division.

He’s been an instant hit in France, with 10 goals in 17 Ligue 1 outings. The 23-year-old’s form earned him an Argentina debut in the autumn.
Chelsea have also looked at Panichelli, with Strasbourg also owned by the club’s BlueCo ownership.
