Pep Guardiola has said Manchester City are ‘not at the level required to win the title’ despite the club’s impressive recent form.
City have won six straight games in all competitions to head into the festive period in confident mood, and in midweek beat Brentford to reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The Blues next face West Ham in the Premier League tomorrow.
Despite closing the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to just two points, Guardiola has said his team must still improve if they are to regain the Premier League title.
“We have results but a lot of things we have to do better,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“It helps for the fact that the mentality and commitment are incredible. We are not at the level required to win the title.”
Guardiola addresses Manchester City exit rumours
Guardiola has this week been linked with an exit from the Etihad at the end of the current campaign. The Spaniard, who is contracted until 2027, will have spent a decade in charge by the end of the season.
Discussing his immediate future, Guardiola said: “I always get asked this question, so sooner or later I will quit Manchester City. I have 18 months, so I’m so happy with the development of the team. That question is there every single season at some point. Whatever is going to happen will happen.
“They are not discussions. End of the subject. I will not be here forever. What is going to happen will happen. The club must be prepared.”
