Atletico Madrid XI vs Athletic Club – Predicted lineup and team news

Atletico Madrid make the journey to San Mamés on Saturday night to take on Athletic Club.

Both teams come into this one aiming to bounce back from midweek defeats. Athletic Club are also searching for greater consistency after a mixed spell of form, while Atlético arrive in Bilbao sitting fourth in the table.

Atletico Madrid team news

Diego Simeone must once again navigate notable fitness problems within his squad ahead of the trip. Álex Baena picked up a hamstring injury during the 3–1 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday. He has since been undergoing physiotherapy, with his progress still under observation and no guarantee he will be ready in time for the weekend.

Johnny Cardoso also sustained an issue to his left knee just 14 minutes into that game. Fortunately without damage to the joint itself, but his participation against Athletic remains doubtful as the medical staff monitor his recovery.

At the back, Robin Le Normand is still working his way back from a serious knee injury to the posterior capsule suffered in early November. Although he has returned to full training and was seen completing sessions on Monday, he is not expected to be available for matchday 15 and is instead being targeted for a mid‑December return.

Marcos Llorente is also ruled out, continuing his spell on the sidelines with a hamstring problem. Both Llorente and Baena are therefore considered at best major doubts for the clash at San Mamés due to their respective hamstring issues.

Atletico Madrid predicted lineup

Possible Atletico Madrid starting XI: Oblak; Molina, Gimenez, Lenglet, Hancko; Simeone, Koke, Barrios, Gallagher; Sorloth, Alvarez.

When will the match kick off?

The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Saturday, 6th December.
