Manchester United linked with transfer raid on Real Madrid

Manchester United are being linked with an approach to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid.

Valverde is reportedly among the Real Madrid players not satisfied with his role under new head coach Xabi Alonso. The Uruguayan has been an integral part of the Spanish side’s recent success but is understood to be open to exploring his options.

Manchester United are one of the clubs keeping a close eye on the situation. Spanish outlet Fichajes are claiming the Red Devils are prepared to move for Valverde if the 27-year-old indicates he’s ready to leave the Bernabeu.

However, there remains a financial disparity between the valuations of the two clubs. Real Madrid will demand a fee of around £100m for the midfielder, while United value Valverde at around £70m.

United are unlikely to be the only side interested should a transfer for Valverde emerge as a genuine option. Arsenal and Liverpool are long-term admirers of the player, who can also operate at right-back.

Valverde has made 341 appearances for Real Madrid, where he has won three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies among his honours.
