Zirkzee thanks teammates after ending Man United goal drought

Joshua Zirkzee has thanked his Manchester United teammates after scoring his first Premier League goal for the club in almost a year.

Zirkzee ended a 24-game barren run as Manchester United came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

The Dutchman’s smart swivel and finish brought the visitors level, after Jean-Philippe Mateta had opened the scoring for Palace with a retaken penalty. Mason Mount fired in a winner for Ruben Amorim’s side, who climbed into the Premier League’s top six.

For Zirkzee, his goal was a moment of relief. The forward had last netted in the league in December 2024, and has lost his place in the side this season.

Injuries to Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko handed Zirkzee an opportunity and he expressed his gratitude at the support he has received at Old Trafford.

“Great feeling. It’s always a good feeling but most importantly just got us back into the game and this guy [Mount] scored a pretty good goal after. It was all about three points today, just very happy we got them.

“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. You have to perform, so if you don’t score for a long time it can get to you but I’m surrounded by great players, great people and we help each other every day.

“So they made it quite easy for me and today is just a reward I think for patience, hard work, trying to be consistent and I’m just thankful to them.”
