UK set to host World Cup as host stadiums revealed

The United Kingdom is almost certain to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2035 after the four associations officially submitted their joint bid for the tournament.

The FA, Irish FA, Scottish FA and FA of Wales announced their submission on Friday and, if successful, would be the first World Cup hosted in the UK since 1966. FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed in April that the UK had proposed the only “valid bid” for the finals.

The bid includes 22 proposed stadiums across 16 host cities; 16 in England, three in Wales, two in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland.

Organisers claim it would be “the most accessible tournament ever”, with 63 million people living within two hours of a proposed venue.

It is predicted that the tournament will generate 4.5 million in ticket sales and have a projected global TV audience of 3.5 billion.

The tournament would involve 104 matches contested by 48 teams over 39 days, with 48 team base camp training sites, 82 venue-specific training sites and 32 FIFA Fan Festival Sites proposed.

Some of the proposed venues include Manchester United’s new Old Trafford stadium, Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium, Hampden Park, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Hibernian’s Easter Road, Wrexham’s Racecourse, and Windsor Park in Belfast.
