Carragher claims Slot has three games to save Liverpool job

Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot must turn results around for Liverpool this week or face the sack at Anfield.

Liverpool have lost nine of their last 12 games in all competitions, the club’s worst run of form for 72 years. A humiliating 4-1 defeat by PSV Eindhoven at Anfield in midweek made it successive home defeats by a three-goal margin, while the Reds have lost three straight games by 3+ goals for the first time since December 1953.

Their dramatic decline comes after winning the Premier League title under Slot last season, and embarking on a record-breaking spend in the summer transfer window. The big-money recruits are yet to impress as Liverpool have faltered badly to sit 11th in the Premier League table.

With clashes against West Ham, Leeds United and Sunderland up next, Carragher said Slot can not afford for results to continue. He believes Liverpool will make a change if the champions do not improve quickly.

“Arne Slot has a week to save his job,” Carragher wrote in the Telegraph.

“No matter how much goodwill the manager has, Liverpool Football Club cannot sustain the drop in standards witnessed over the past three months.

“No one knows better than me how much that reality will be hurting everyone connected with my old club. Liverpool do not willingly sack coaches, especially those that bring great success.

“After Slot won the Premier League in his first season, he seemed destined for a long stay on Merseyside too. Now, just six months later, he is hanging on.”
