Cremonese vs AS Roma – Match preview and team news
- Date: Sunday, 23rd November.
- Kick-off: 2pm BST.
- Venue: Stadio Giovanni Zini, Cremona.
Cremonese team news
Cremonese remain without several players for this fixture. Mikayil Faye is sidelined with an ankle sprain and could be replaced at left wing-back by Giuseppe Pezzella, who has recently recovered his fitness.
The hosts are also set to miss Alberto Grassi, Faris Moumbagna, and Michele Collocolo due to ongoing injuries, with Alessio Zerbin still a doubt for selection.
Head coach Davide Nicola acknowledged the team’s recent misfortunes after their last defeat, emphasising squad depth and adaptability: “We need to find different solutions in each situation. The team deserved more last time out, but we must remain focused on moving forward,” Nicola stated after the 1-0 loss to Pisa.
Cremonese’s attack continues to rely on Jamie Vardy and Federico Bonazzoli. Vardy, still finding form in Italy, has scored twice in his debut Serie A season, while Bonazzoli is the side’s top scorer with four goals so far. Jari Vandeputte has impressed in midfield with four assists this campaign.
AS Roma team news
Roma are also battling an injury crisis in attack. Paulo Dybala is still unavailable as he continues his recovery, and forward Artem Dovbyk is ruled out until mid-December with a thigh injury. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini is further hampered by the absences of wingers Leon Bailey and Angelino, whose fitness issues persist. Midfielder Edoardo Bove (heart concerns) and Michele Collocolo also remain out.
Despite these absences, Roma have maintained form, boasting the league’s best defence with only five goals conceded in 11 matches. Matias Soule, the young Argentine, leads Roma’s attack and has contributed three goals and two assists in Serie A this season.
Gasperini praised the supporters and team spirit: “People have the right to dream – we head into the break sitting at the top of the table. We feel the emotion and pride from the fans, and we focus on each game with desire to give our best,” he mentioned following their recent victory over Udinese.
Form
Cremonese
Cremonese have struggled for consistency, winning only once in their last nine matches across all competitions.
Their current form stands at D-D-W-L-L, with the side having suffered consecutive defeats to Juventus and Pisa ahead of the international break, leaving confidence somewhat dented. They have, however, shown resilience at home and upset big names before.
AS Roma
AS Roma, currently, has won four of their last five fixtures in all competitions, only losing to Milan recently in Serie A.
Their streak includes impressive wins against Udinese and Rangers, and their away form is among the league’s best, with seven wins, one draw, and two losses in their previous 10 road matches.
Predicted lineups
Cremonese: Audero; Terracciano, Baschirotto, Bianchetti; Barbieri, Payero, Bondo, Vandeputte, Pezzella; Bonazzoli, Vardy.
AS Roma: Svilar; Hermoso, Mancini, Ndicka; Celik, Kone, Cristante, Wesley; Soule, Pellegrini; Ferguson.
