Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim has left Kobbie Mainoo out of the matchday squad for Saturday’s encounter with Spurs and replaced him with Jack Fletcher.Â
The midfielder has reportedly sustained a minor injury that has ruled him out of the Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the Red Devils look to extend their four-match unbeaten run.
Mainoo has not started a league match for United this season amid speculation that he could leave on loan in the January transfer window. Incidentally, Spurs were one of the clubs linked with him in the summer.
Fletcher could make his first team debut for the club after being drafted in for a place on the bench. He was included in matchday squads several times last season.
The 18 year old’s inclusion maintains Man Utd’s 88-year record of having an academy graduate of homegrown player in every matchday squad. The run, which stretches for over 4,000 consecutive games, started in October 1937.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Sesko has been dropped to the bench with Amorim starting Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo in the front three. Harry Maguire, Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu have been recalled.
Thomas Frank has selected Brennan Johnson, Richarlison and Xavi Simons after the trio started last weekend’s tepid defeat to Chelsea on the bench. Rodrigo Bentancur has been replaced by Pape Matar Sarr, who will start alongside Joao Palhinha in midfield.
