Liverpool midfielder leads Champions League for key stat

Dominik Szoboszlai has been arguably Liverpool’s standout performer so far this season.

The Hungary international has been relentless in the Reds midfield, bringing infectious energy even amid recent struggles. Szoboszlai is not purely a work-horse, however, and delivered another moment of technical quality this week.

The 25-year-old’s wicked delivery created Liverpool’s winner as the Premier League champions beat Real Madrid 1-0 at Anfield in the Champions League.

Szoboszlai has inherited free-kick duties from the departed Trent Alexander-Arnold and whipped a brilliant dead-ball on to the head of Alexis Mac Allister.

He has now provided three assists in the Champions League this season, the joint-most of any player alongside Paris Saint-Germain full-back Achraf Hakimi and Marseille forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It’s as many as he managed in his previous 31 appearances in the competition.
